Reassembly

The body returned from the paint shop and looks pretty good, although, it's so bright I need to wear sunglasses!

Swapping a lot of the original brackets from the old body makes this new repro body look very close to original.

The first thing I install on all my projects is the data plate.  The original was long gone, so we used a reproduction.

The wiring harness we used was from Walcks and is really easy to install.

Some of the gauge holes needed to have the paint removed on the edges.  To prevent damaging the paint, I place tape along the edges.  Believe me, it's worth the extra time!!

The starter pushrod gets a custom made bushing to help reinforce the firewall hole.

New NACO tail lights get installed.

Starting to look like a Jeep again!!

The oil bath air cleaner and brackets were powder coated and installed with a new Donaldson sticker.

All brand new gauges are installed.

The wiring is complete under the dash, and the transmission and overdrive shifters are installed.

One of the many details we carried over to the new body was the "Jeep" script on the toolbox.  Note the vent hole as well.  I also added the correct drain hole inside the toolbox.

The MD Juan reproduction tubs have a few notorious problems with the opening for the transmission being misaligned.  To fix it I will have to adjust the tranny cover.  The line to the left of the opening is what needs to be removed.

With the new opening cut, I add some material to the other side to balance out the hole.

Here is the new opening and the cutout for the overdrive shifter.  This will go off to the powder coater now.

The reproduction side steps are designed for CJ-5s.  To make them fit a 3A, I need to modify one bracket on each side.  The X'd out material is what needs to be removed.  (see Installing Side Steps for more details)

The remaining bracket.

The top mounting tab (in this photo on the bottom) needs to get reversed.

Here are the completed brackets ready for powder coating.  You can see how they are angled now and the mounting tab is reversed.

The windshield, fenders and grill showed up today and were installed.

Somehow a MD Juan fender does not fit an MD Juan body, go figure!!!  Looks like we are going to try and save the original fender now.

So close to being done we can taste it!!!  The reproduction hood looks great.

All the wiring is done.  Even the voltage regulator cover was sandblasted and powder coated!

The radiator, shroud, new horn, and wiring harness are all installed now.

The headlights and turn signals installed.

Powder coated spare tire carrier installed.

Both the drivers side mirror and rearview mirror get installed next.

The "Jeep" script on the toolbox gets hand painted gloss black.

The reproduction steps were powdercoated and installed.

Seat upholstery from New Life Canvas.

The drivers side wiper installed along with a new vacuum line.  This wiper motor is from a 2A and does not work very well.

Almost done!!!

Ready for all the car shows and parades.

A reproduction vintage looking heater switch is installed.

The tailgate is installed along with a die-cut vinyl "4 Wheel Drive" decal.  The footman loops and tailgate chains were powdercoated and installed as well.

We found a good used Harrison heater on Ebay.

The heater case gets stripped and painted in a Rustoleum Hammerite Bronze paint.  The heater core had already been rebuilt.

The one drawback to this heater was that the heater motor wad bad, so I found a nice NOS motor on Ebay.  It's a very close match.

Here is the heater reassembled.

All done!  The Willys tag was found on Ebay as well.

The new heater looks great under the dash.

Bob's Jeep gets the official Jeep Rescue gas can mount.

The winch gets brand new stainless steel cable (we are still waiting on a hook).
