 The
transmission was caked in grease and dirt, and had some serious water
penetration. |
 The water had
caused some pretty serious damage. |
 Once again,
at least a pound of grease and dirt was removed from the outside of the
case, and a thick mud was inside the tranny. |
 The
countershaft had the most damage (see below). |
 Here are all
the parts laid out for inspection. |
 There was
some pretty serious pitting on the countershaft gears. |
 The 1st and
reverse gear was also pitted. |
 The oil
slinger is also heavily rusted. Many people leave this out after a
rebuild, but this one will be replaced. |
 The case was
stripped and painted. |
 The assembly
starts with installing the 88 needle bearings in the new countershaft gear. |
 Back together
and good as new! |
 The shifter
gets some new threads for the shifter knob. |
 Good as new! |
 Welcome to my
world. It's a world of grease and dirt. Here is what removing
the e-brake drum revealed. |
 Everything
gets disassembled, cleaned, and painted. |
 One of the
transfer case shifters had some broken threads, so it gets ground down and
rethreaded |
 New seals are
installed. |
 All new
e-brake hardware. |
 And good as
new! |
