Engine

The inside of the motor looked great.  The crank looked new, but had reground connecting rod journals at .010" over, and normal size main bearings.  Connecting rod endplay was double the recommended at .020".  Cylinder walls looked excellent and were measured for out-of-round with no anomalies.  There was a lot of carbon around the valves, but they seated correctly.  For this motor I recommend a good cleaning, new rings and oil seals, and regrinding the valves.

Now it was time to work on the motor.

After tearing down the motor I discovered it had been re-bored 40 over, which is the maximum recommended in the manual.

3/11/07: The motor is back from the rebuilder

I pulled the head to inspect the work the rebuilder did.  Everything looks good.  The cylinders were honed and new rings installed.  The valves were also reground.

Here's a shot showing the nicely ground valves.
